If you've already invested in a perimeter fence, but you're finding that it doesn't get the job done, as far as security goes, you might feel like there aren't any options. However, that's not true. There are actually several options to retrofit fences for added security, and we recently completed a project just like that.
The Problem
Our client, who owns a commercial property in Calgary, had already installed a chain link security fence with barbed wire. However, as sometimes happens, opportunistic criminals were going through the fence rather than over or under.
In commercial and industrial parts of most cities, there's a lot of activity during the day, but at night, there are very few people around. This leaves a lot of time for people with dishonest intentions to get up to all sorts of things. Even with cameras and alarm systems, it can be hard to catch them in the act.
The Solution
In this case, since there was unlawful access through the fence itself, Rite-Way supplied and installed steel tubing, that was spaced at 18" intervals along the height of the fence. These pieces of steel were then tack welded to the posts along the fence line, and the welds treated with cold galvanizing.
Making this change to the fence makes it much harder for people to climb through the fence, and impossible to remove a section of fence for easier access on foot and for small vehicles. While this might not stop every theft, it will make it a lot easier for the authorities to be alerted.
Other Options
While this provided a cost effective enhanced security retrofitting option for our customer, it's certainly not the only option.
Other options for increasing the security of fences include installing welded or expanded metal panels, switching mesh for a smaller mesh aperture or heavier gauge wire, and a variety of other options.
All of these kinds of retrofits improve security, without the cost of a fully new fence.
So if you find that your security fence is not what it could be, reach out to your local Rite-Way Fencing branch, and let's talk about your options. There's a security retrofit option for most fences that are in a good condition. So let's find one that works for you.
